Social networks are the Internet’s future. When the Internet first went live in 1969 as ARPANet network architecture built by the U.S. Government, its purpose was to streamline communication. Following that was the NSFNet, followed by CSNET, and so on, until it was quickly populated due to the explosion of commercial distribution in 1992. The Internet was used prior to that in universities, larger organizations, and a handful of geeky individuals throughout the 1980’s.

Social Networks Streamline Communication

Social NetworkThe goal has always been to streamline communication – to make messages, thoughts, ideas, and innovation move faster than the speed of thought, and touch terminals around the world in the blink of an eye.

Social networking is the next step in the Internet’s evolution.

What is a social network?

MySpace has become synonymous with social networks, but it was by far not the first social network on the Web. As early as 1989, technology junkies would meet at universities to communicate with other geeks around the world using message board-like applications and Usenet.

It wasn’t until applications were implemented, such as MySpace, that social networks gained wide popularity. This is primarily because such applications simplified the process of finding people with whom to share content, network and interact. The message board style websites of the 1990’s were messy and disorganized. The ability to interact in a clean blog style made social networks an instant hit.

Social Networks and Business

Moving away from the history books and into the present, you need social networking to be a part of your search engine marketing strategy. The ability to connect with your target market is a powerful tool that cannot be ignored.

Let’s move on to social networking.
